What is Demo Highlights?
Demo Highlights is a feature that tracks user interactions within your demos and demo leave-behinds, providing a detailed view of engagement and demo performance.
Until now, demo analytics have been fairly limited—offering only basic data like session duration. Demo Highlights takes this to the next level by capturing detailed user interactions, including clicks, navigation paths, and feature engagement. This granular tracking allows you to see not just how long a demo was viewed, but exactly how prospects and sales reps interact with it.
By bringing a well-established marketing practice into the sales world, Demo Highlights enables sales teams to track user behavior within demos—just as marketers do with websites and digital content. This allows for data-driven optimization, helping reps refine their approach and focus on what truly resonates with prospects.
Why Use Demo Highlights?
Gain visibility into demo engagement – Identify which areas of your product attract the most attention.
Monitor sales reps’ performance – Ensure reps are showcasing the right features and following the most effective demo flows.
Correlate patterns with deal success – Determine which interactions contribute to winning deals and refine your sales strategy accordingly.
Improve demo effectiveness – Understand what resonates with prospects and optimize follow-ups based on real user behavior.
How Does It Work?
Every demo consists of thousands of interactions—clicks, navigation, feature views—but until now, demo analytics only captured surface-level data. Demo Highlights changes that by tracking every interaction, giving you full visibility into how demos are presented and engaged with.
With Demostack automatically logging all this data, users can:
Access a complete list of demo events
Filter and search to find the most relevant interactions
Mark key events as Demo Highlights, making it easy to track and compare important moments across sessions
Key Features of Demo Highlights
Instant data reflection – Once a Highlight is defined and saved, it is immediately reflected across all areas where Demostack reports on demo data.
Historical data compatibility – Highlights are backwards compatible, meaning that when you define a Highlight today, you can instantly see its historical data from past demos.
How to Set Up Demo Highlights
This feature is only available to admin and editor user roles. Presenters do not have access to set up Highlights.
Access the Demo Highlights Page
Navigate to the analytics icon in the bottom-left corner of the main navigation bar.
Click the icon to open a menu with two options.
Select "Demo Highlights."
Understanding the Demo Highlights Table
Once you access Demo Highlights, you’ll see a table listing all page visits and click events from any Demostack demo given. This table provides a detailed breakdown of user interactions, helping you quantify engagement trends.
To refine and customize the data displayed in the table, use the following sorting and filtering options:
Sorting options
Sort by event volume – Arrange events based on how frequently they were triggered.
Sort by most recent interaction – Arrange events based on the latest time they were triggered.
Filtering options
Time range – View events from the last 30, 60, or 90 days.
Workspace – Focus on events from specific workspaces.
Event type – Filter by event type:
Click (interactions with UI elements)
Visit (page visits within the demo)
Path – Show events occurring on specific demo pages.
User who triggered the event – Filter interactions based on who triggered the event.
Search by event name – Quickly locate a specific event by entering its name in the search bar.
Additional data controls
Include external users – By default, the table only includes events from signed-up users. Enabling this filter allows you to include interactions from external visitors (e.g., prospects engaging with sandbox demos).
Show all Highlights – The table displays Highlights based on pre-set time ranges. Enabling this filter reveals Highlights, even if they haven’t been triggered in the selected time range.
Example: If a Highlight was defined 100 days ago but hasn’t been triggered since, this filter allows users to see it in the table.
Highlighting an Event
To highlight an event:
Locate the event in the table.
Click the cursor icon on the left side of the row.
Once highlighted, the event will be pinned to the top of the table for easy access.
Tip: If you're unsure which event to highlight, trigger the event in a test demo, then refresh the table using the “Refresh” button above the table to confirm it's correctly logged.
Editing a Highlighted Event
Click the pencil icon to open the "Edit Event" modal.
Rename the event (recommended), add a description, and mark it as a Highlight.
You can also highlight the event from this modal.
Limitation: A maximum of 20 Highlights can be created.
Note: Once a Highlight is defined, it will automatically appear in all session reports and analytics views—past and future—without resetting any event tracking data.

This feature allows users to analyze the full session history, providing deeper insight into user interactions beyond predefined highlights.
FAQs:
Q: How does Demostack define event names?
A: For clicked elements, we process the label of the button. For page visits, we extract the name from the path.
Q: Why do some events in the events table not have a name?
A: If an event is missing a name, it's most likely because we couldn't identify an indicative enough string, so we left it empty for users to edit.
Q: How many events can be marked as highlights?
A: Currently, up to 20.
Q: Why is there a Highlight description field?
A: Currently, it's not being used, but it can help users understand what each highlight means.
Q: What is the best way to ensure I'm selecting the right event?
A: Launch a test demo, trigger the event, and go to the events table. Filter the data so only events triggered by you are shown, refresh it, and identify the event.
Q: Why can't I mark an event as a Highlight?
A: Either you've reached 20 highlights and need to unmark a Highlight, or the event doesn't have a name. You should name it, and then you should be able to mark it as a Highlight.
Q: Why are there events that were triggered by anonymous users?
A: These are external users visiting your demo and leaving without providing a name or email.
