Demo Highlights

Updated over a month ago

What is Demo Highlights?

Demo Highlights is a feature that tracks user interactions within your demos and demo leave-behinds, providing a detailed view of engagement and demo performance.

Until now, demo analytics offered only basic data like session duration. Demo Highlights captures detailed interactions—clicks, navigation paths, and feature engagement - so you see not just how long a demo was viewed, but exactly how prospects and sales reps interact with it.

By bringing a well-established marketing practice into Demostack, Demo Highlights enables teams to track demo behavior the same way marketers track websites. This allows for data-driven optimization, helping reps refine their approach and focus on what resonates most with prospects.

Why Use Demo Highlights?

  • Gain visibility into demo engagement – Identify which areas of your product attract the most attention.

  • Monitor sales reps’ performance – Ensure reps are showcasing the right features and following the most effective demo flows.

  • Correlate patterns with deal success – Determine which interactions contribute to winning deals and refine your sales strategy accordingly.

  • Improve demo effectiveness – Understand what resonates with prospects and optimize follow-ups based on real user behavior.

How Does It Work?

Every demo consists of thousands of interactions—clicks, navigation, feature views. Demo Highlights tracks each interaction and lets you mark the key ones as “Highlights.”

  • Once defined, Highlights are applied across all demos (not demo-specific).

  • You only need to define a Highlight once, while editing a demo. After that, it will be tracked in all sessions where that interaction occurs.

  • Highlights are backward-compatible: you can see historical data immediately.

  • Global vs. Page-Specific Highlights

When creating a Highlight, you can choose its scope:

    • Global Highlight – Tracked wherever the element appears across the app. Use this for core actions or features that repeat in multiple flows.

    • Page-Specific Highlight – Tracked only on the page where it was defined. Use this when the same element behaves differently across pages or flows, or when you want to ensure viewers reached that element through a specific flow.

Choosing the right scope helps ensure accurate tracking and more reliable insights.

Key Features of Demo Highlights

  • Define Highlights directly while editing a demo – Select elements on screen or a URL and mark it as a Highlight.

  • Global scope – Highlights apply across all demos in your organization once defined.

  • Instant data reflection – Saved Highlights appear immediately across analytics and session reports.

  • Historical compatibility – All past sessions update to include the new Highlight data.

  • Limitations:

    • Maximum of 20 Highlights per workspace.

    • May not work well with variables.

    • Will not work when using the Translation feature.

How to Set Up Demo Highlights

Once defined, the Highlight is tracked across all demos where that element or URL appears.

Step 1: Edit a Demo

  • Navigate to the demo builder.

  • Enter edit mode for the demo where you want to define a Highlight.
note: while defining the highlights from within a demo, they are global and will apply to all of your demos.

Step 2: Select an Element or URL

  • Tap the highlight icon from the side panel (aka manager's panel)

  • Tap the 'plus' button

  • Choose if you want to tag the entire page or a specific element

Step 3: Mark as a Highlight

  • Name the Highlight for clarity.

    • It is recommended to use naming convention for easy tracking.

  • Save your changes.

Viewing Highlights Data

Analytics Dashboard – Filter by Highlights

  • Navigate to the analytics dashboard.

  • Use the Highlights filter to segment sessions:

    • If any – Sessions with at least one selected Highlight.

    • If all – Sessions with all selected Highlights.

Session Breakdown – View Highlights in Context

  • Open a session breakdown (Demos given, Sandbox visits).

  • The “Highlights” column shows how many Highlights were triggered in that session.

  • Click the number in the column to open a modal with the full list.

View All Events in a Session

  • In the modal, toggle Include all session events to see the full event list, not just Highlights.

  • This lets you analyze context around Highlighted interactions.

  • Note: the events marked with blue are the Highlights.

FAQs

Q: Do I need to define Highlights for every demo?
A: No. Once defined on one demo, Highlights apply across all demos.

Q: Why can’t I add a Highlight?
A: You may have reached the 20-Highlight limit, or the element is missing a name. Add a name to enable highlighting.

Q: Do Highlights work retroactively?
A: Yes. Once created, past sessions are updated to show whether the Highlight was triggered.

Summary

Demo Highlights moves beyond basic analytics by letting you define and track the most important demo interactions. With in-builder setup, global scope, and visibility across analytics and session breakdowns, sales teams can focus on the moments that matter most.
